The Richard Levi Guide to Twenty20 Six Hitting

Relative unknown batsman Richard Levi broke two world records on his way to a Twenty20 hundred, making Chris Gayle look more like Chris Tavarè.

His hundred came in a record-smashing 45 balls and in total he smote 13 sixes; 3 more than the previous record. He trended worldwide on twitter.

How did he do it?

Some people will put it down to natural talent. Others will say he just had a big slice of luck.

But really it’s the result of hard work built on some excellent physical skills.

Here are the 5 reasons Richard Levi can make six hitting look like a stroll in the park.

The Truth About Hitting Against the Spin

In England, I was bought up being told that you should not hit against the spin.

You can't hit with control and the bowler will end up getting your wicket, they used to tell me.

Every time I hit an off spinner for 4 between mid off and extra cover I was told it was risky.

But I reckon that in all my batting career scored 2000 runs with that one shot.

Kevin Pietersen on: Playing Left Arm Spin

In our regular series of coaching questions PitchVision Academy put to Kevin Pietersen during the filming of Keep Calm and Smash It, we asked KP to explain his approach to left arm spin. He doesn't see a problem.

The video below explains it all, including demonstrating the way he scores.

After discussing the best trigger for pace bowling in part one, part two of this video sees Gary Palmer move on to spinners.

Yet again Gary’s goal is to make sure the batsman avoids the common technical problems with a simple move that is an adaption of the popular – and highly misunderstood – forward press.

4 Angles: The Only Technical Batting Session You Ever Need

PitchVision batting coach Gary Palmer has been causing a bit of a stir.

After years of experimenting and developing he has come up with the ultimate batting session.

A batting session that is so effective and so complete he has been showing it to open-mouthed coaches at several first-class counties.

But here is the kicker; it teaches you to bat in a way that has never been taught before.

Gary calls it 4 Angles, and it’s the only session you will ever need as a coach or a player.

In part one of this two part video on trigger moves, Gary Palmer reveals the most effective way to trigger against swing and seam bowling.

There is much advice and discussion on trigger moves, but the method Gary Palmer teaches allows batsmen at all levels to stay balanced and aligned to the ball without getting closed off.

Mark Garaway and David Hinchliffe discuss batting collapses in the light of India and England’s poor performances on tour. Every team has had a collapse, so the team talk about ways you can at least try to prevent them in your side.

Iain Brunnschweiler joins the show on the phone to talk about his work with the England Under 17 players in a recent camp, and also his Inspired Cricket Manual.

Batsmen: Don’t Make This Mistake When You Get a Full Toss

Filed in:

The full toss is rated next to the rank half tracker when it comes to the top 5 worst balls a bowler can bowl.

But worryingly for batsmen the full-toss is often in line with the stumps. And that is why you should rank the full toss as the best bad ball a bowler can bowl.

You need to learn how to play it right.

So often you see a batman’s eye light up at the sight of a full toss. It makes sense because the ball hasn’t pitched so there cannot be any movement off the wicket, and oddly a full toss rarely swings, reducing the risk of late movement.
