Role Purpose:

As part of the Sussex Cricket Development Team, reporting to the Cricket Development Manager, the main purpose of the role is to provide coaching for young people in disadvantaged communities in Sussex. These will be targeted areas, with partnerships developed in conjunction with local authorities and other community bodies. Ultimately, the role will entail providing accessible opportunities to young people who may have seen these opportunities restricted previously.
 
The role will be primarily based in East Sussex, but may involve travel to other parts of the County in order to deliver key responsibilities.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • To plan, deliver and administer programmes aimed at engaging and enthusing young people in targeted communities of Sussex 
  • To work in partnership with other organisations with similar objectives 
  • To work with cricket clubs in the local area to offer sustainable exit routes for young people 
  • To plan, manage, develop and administer other specific programmes and areas of work when requested
  • To deliver school competitions
  • To deliver Sussex Cricket Board events including Road Shows, Holiday Courses and Club Competitions
  • To work closely with the Sussex Cricket Development Office
  • To research external funding opportunities
  • To attend meetings, training courses, seminars, workshops and/or conferences, as directed by the Sussex Cricket Board
  • To commit to a professional personal development programme
 
The Community Coach is required to establish effective working relationships with:
  • Sussex Cricket Board staff
  • Sussex County Cricket Club staff
  • Affiliated Cricket Clubs
  • Local Authorities
  • Education Establishments
  • Community Centres/Groups
 
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
The following skills / knowledge / experience are essential (E) or preferred (P):
  • Experience of working with young people from disadvantaged communities and diverse backgrounds (E)
  • Experience of coaching in a state school environment (P)
  • Experience of coaching in a community group environment (P)
  • Experience of coaching in a club environment (P)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Sussex Cricket strategy (P)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding Children principles, policies and procedures (E)
  • Good oral and written communication skills (E) 
  • Good computer literacy, including MS Office (P)
  • Good quality administration skills (P)
  • Ability to manage you own time (E)
  • ECB / UKCC Level II coaching qualification (P)
  • Full and valid driving license and access to a car (E)
  • Ability to work flexible and  unsociable hours (evenings and weekends) (E)
 
Core hours are Monday to Friday 1-5pm, however due to the nature of the work, the post-holder will carry out his/her duties at such times/days which are most effective to perform the task required.  This may involve out of hours work: evenings, weekends and bank holidays as necessary.  The board will require attendance at events, presentations and meetings at various times.
 
4. Package
£10,400 per annum plus additional benefits and allowances; Initial 12 month contract.
