A vacancy has arisen for the position of Media Manager- First Class and Recreational Cricket.  Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, your role will be to promote domestic First Class and Non-First Class cricket.

Principle Responsibilities:
To manage press and PR for the ECB’s three main County competitions and assist with the Communications team’s promotion of the recreational game, working in close concert with other key ECB departments; the Marketing team, the Professional Game Department and the Cricket Partnerships team
 
Nature and Scope of Role:
This role is designed to serve the corporate goals outlined by ECB in its latest four-year strategic plan: ‘Champion Counties’.
 
An estimated 8.9 million people follow county cricket across different platforms and ECB is committed to growing the audience for our domestic professional game still further.
 
A key part of this role will involve developing innovative and proactive PR campaigns to support the LV=CC, the NatWest T20 Blast competition and the Royal London One-Day Cup.
 
The role will require regular contact and liaison with PR and Marketing managers within the 18 First Class Counties as well as the principal competition sponsors.
 
ECB is also keen to ensure that the professional and recreational games are closely aligned, have a strong presence in their local communities and encourage more people to play, attend and follow cricket.
 
In servicing the recreational game, the post-holder will be encouraged to prioritise key areas of the Cricket Partnerships team’s work including its award-winning volunteer programmes, roll-out of major facilities projects, development of club/school links and engagement with the South Asian cricket community.
 
This will require close working relationships with the ECB’s network of County Boards as well as key partners such as Chance to Shine and the Lord’s and Lady Taverners.
 
Key Tasks:
Building a network of contacts within the national and regional media who cover county cricket and identifying areas for expanded coverage.
Influencing the media in support of the ECB Marketing team’s wider efforts to drive attendance across the First Class game, increase grassroots participation and build a wider digital following for the sport.
Achieving recognition for ECB’s wider investment in the First Class game which has resulted in improved stadia, drainage and spectator facilities.
Developing a strong working relationship with members of the Professional Game team who oversee regulations, discipline and playing conditions and issuing press releases and statements on their behalf as required.
Promoting ECB’s investment and support for the non-First Class game to the media, the wider cricket family and key funding organisations.
Working with the ECB’s Sponsorship PR manager to deliver ECB’s award-winning volunteering initiative NatWest Cricketforce and its annual awards event for volunteers, the NatWest OSCAs.

Knowledge and Experience:
It is vital that the applicant has a keen understanding, enthusiasm for and knowledge of professional and/or grassroots sport.
 
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate previous experience of implementing strategic PR campaigns to support major sporting projects or events. A proven ability to deliver effective regional media campaigns on all platforms will be considered an asset.
 
Strong journalistic or writing skills will be needed as the candidate will be expected to produce a regular flow of press releases and articles for ECB publications and work closely with the ECB’s in-house digital team. The successful candidate must also have skills across digital platforms - including social media, video and audio - experience to ensure the maximum exposure for the first class and recreational games.
 
The role will also require the ability to manage press conference and photo-opportunities, act as an ECB spokesman when required and brief senior ECB personnel ahead of scheduled media activity.
 
Flexibility in working arrangements will be essential as the role will require weekend working in supporting both First Class and non-First Class cricket fixtures and events throughout the season. There may also be a small amount of overseas travel to support the England Lions and/or England u19s in the off season.
