CRICKET JOBS: Community Coach, North - Somerset CB (UK)

The Somerset Cricket Board in partnership with Chance to Shine and Wellsway School wish to appoint a full-time community cricket coach to implement and deliver high quality cricket coaching in North Somerset and South Bristol. The role will focus on increasing opportunities for pupils to train and compete in cricket in the school setting and enabling young cricketers to migrate from school engagement to their local club cricket. 

The successful candidate will be based at Wellsway School, Keynsham and work throughout North Somerset and South Bristol. Within this area the coach will be required to deliver cricket coaching in secondary schools, primary schools and special educational needs schools and departments. They will also support and run the Somerset Cricket Board’s school competition framework.

The post holder will develop cricket in Somerset schools by meeting with heads of department to discuss the support that can be provided and setting up coaching accordingly. They shall gather feedback from schools to enable the Somerset Cricket Board to better meet their needs.

The community coach will work closely with cricket clubs to ensure that school pupils are sign-posted to and welcomed by their nearest club. Through the winter months the coach will support the roll out of an under 17 indoor league to support clubs and pupils and ensure that young adults are given every opportunity to remain in the game.

The post holder will report to their line-manager, the Somerset Cricket Board’s Schools and Disability Development Officer. The workload will be approximately 70% coaching delivery and 30% development of the schools programme; though this will be flexible through the course of the year.

During school holidays the community coach will deliver holiday coaching workshops for junior cricketers. As well as supporting and developing any other Somerset Cricket Board priorities.

The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of cricket coaching in schools, a passion for the game and the ability to lead and inspire others.

Candidates must demonstrate both team working skills and the ability to work unsupervised using their own initiative.

You will be a self-starter with energy and enthusiasm together with good administrative and organisational skills. Equally you will be an excellent communicator with an ability to deliver cricket to a range of audiences.

Applicants must hold a full, clean driving license, have access to a vehicle and be able/willing to work evenings and weekends.

All offers of employment will be conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory disclosure from the ECB Disclosure and Barring Service.

The post is for an initial 18 month fixed term (subject to a successful probationary period) contract commencing from February 2015 and will be reviewed after the 18 months subject to securing future funding.
