Fielding Drill: Distraction Deflection Catching

This video is a slip catching drill at an indoor training session where the only space available was a net.

After doing some technical work, we wanted to increase the difficulty level of catching in the space. So, we added two distractions

  1. Players throwing marker discs across the line of the ball.
  2. the ball thrown from a Katchet ramp and deflecting of multi-stumps to try and replicate a fine edge.

We used Incrediballs for this drill just to be safe, and rotated the catcher with the "distractioners".

The feedback from the players was that it was fun and did make it harder as you had to wait to adjust to the deflection and focus hard on the ball as the discs flew around.

I'd love to know how you could customise and progress this drill further, so please leave a comment.
