Cricket fitness myths
Filed in:

"If fitness professionals can't agree with each other about what is best, then what chance do cricketers have?"

Cricket strength and conditioning coach Liz Ward told me this recently and it got me to thinking. What myths exist in the cricket world that all fitness professionals can agree on?

It's a way of making a start at building a training culture in this great game. Fitness is such a vital part of cricket performance and injury prevention there is no excuse to avoid it.

Debunking the myths that many cricketers believe but no fitness coaches believe is a great way to do it.

So, over the next few days I'm going to pick out those fitness mistakes and help you improve your game in simple to follow ways.

Cricket Fitness Myths

  1. "Will I get too big and muscular to play cricket if I weight train?"
  2. "Are sit ups the best exercise for my abs?"
  3. "Is jogging is the best way to get fit for cricket?"

More tips coming up so subscribe to make sure you get every part of this series.

Well Steve, I was thinking more about the fitness side, but generally speaking that is good advice. Unless you are really smart between the wickets, but that's another topic!

I'm a personal trainer myself and although I dont deal with cricketers much I can say a lot of sportsmen believe what they have read in fitness magazines or have been told by their bodybuilder mates. Good luck convincing cricketer players.
