Cricket Show 23: The perfect backlift
Filed in:

Spring is in the air for David while Kevin battens down the hatches for the close season. It's another week of questions as we discuss:

  • England winning the World Cup with Kevin watching in awe
  • More twittering
  • What is the perfect backlift and how to correct a poor one.
  • Toenail injuries for bowlers
  • Net ideas for 10-16 year olds
  • What is talent and can you improve yours?

The homework question of the week is: "What are you working on in training at the moment?" Get involved and email us to avoid detention.

Hi David,

We are doing our first outdoor session this week. The idea is to use some baseline testing. The tests we are thinking of using are; Timed running a 3, T drill agility test or zig zag agility test, sit and throw medicine ball test or Medicine Ball Javelin Quadrathlon, plank, stork balance test and alternate ball wall throw for coordination. The aim is to revisit these throughout the season to track any progress made. What do you think to these tests? Any others that might be useful to use?

Great question Lyndon, I'll make a note to answer it in the next show.

Cricket Basic Number 42: Warm Up But Don't Wear Out

42. Warm up before you play in a match but don’t waste energy and wear yourself out. If it is hot, keep out of the sun as much possible, after doing a warm up jog, find some shade under a tree or somewhere cool to do some stretching and discuss final tactics.
