PitchVision Academy Cricket Show

The new series of the PitchVision Academy Cricket Show is in full swing. This week we feature an interview with former New Zealand coach and first-class cricketer Andy Moles.

Andy will be coaching at the Cape Town Cricket Academy in February.

We also get stuck into your coaching questions and look at:

  • What to do if you are a ‘net’ bowler who goes to pieces in the middle.
  • Strength training to prevent injury in beanpole fast bowlers.

And Burners stays on top from throughout as always.

Remember you contribution is all important on all open topics.

Comments

Still very early days but so far I am liking the new show. This new guy is funny.

Cheers Alek, get your stories in.

Well speaking about topics Dave, I would like to see the topic of sledging being investigated in detail either through a few articles or on the show. Not bowling this year, I have become a bit more chirpy out in the field and I am getting good results in that you can distract a batsman's concentration with a few well timed comments.

I think it would be really good if we can open the door on issues such as when is the best time to use sledging, what form of sledging to use, what type of people should it be directed to, or more precisely, who will it most work against, which probably touches on the whole issue of personality characteristics, etc. You want to pick your sledging targets carefully because it could very easily backfire.

I will share a story from the weekend. We were playing a T20 game and there was a batsmen that would charge the spinner each ball.I was getting stuck into him, and I could tell he was listening. So before the bowler bowled the next ball, I could tell he was going to charge and to rev him up I yelled "Watch out boys, here comes the cavalry". Well this guy started charging the spinner before the ball was bowled, missed the ball and got bowled (would have been stumped by a long way as well). He must have been so focused on shutting me up that he tried to belt the ball on the motorway, didn't keep his head down and got himself out.
