Principle Responsibilities:

  • To attend meetings of the Selection Panel as required by the National Selector and contribute fully to the selection of; England (men), England ‘Lions’, England Central Contracts, England Performance Programme.
  • To work closely with the National Selector and National Cricket Performance Centre Analyst to ensure that the selectors have the best possible up to date information regarding the performance of First Class Cricketers.
  • To receive and review information from the Chief Medical Officer regarding the Health and Fitness of players being considered for England Selection.
  • To work closely with the Performance Director and National Performance Centre staff, including the psychology and lifestyle departments to monitor the progress on and off the field of the most talented young England qualified players in First Class Cricket.
  • To assist the National Selector and MD England Cricket in reviewing selection processes and protocols.
  • To provide the necessary information to maintain a database on all First Class cricketers and emerging young talent as directed by the National Selector.
  • To liaise closely with the England Team Director to ensure that communication between the England teams and the First Class Counties is of the highest order.
  • To be available to support the selection of England teams throughout the year in all parts of the world as directed by the MD England Cricket and National Selector.
  • To attend England, England Lions, and First Class County matches as directed by the National Selector.
  • To establish close working relationships with the First Class County Directors of Cricket/Head Coaches and CEO’s to ensure excellent communication between England Teams and the First Class Counties regarding England Selection policies.
  • In the absence of the National Selector to represent the views of the Selection Panel to the media and other ECB stakeholders as directed by the Head of Corporate Communications.
  • To liaise closely with the National Selector and be prepared to undertake any other duties related to the work of these functions as required.
 
Nature and Scope of Job:
 
Job Context:
 
A core objective of ECB is to develop and maintain successful England cricket teams. The England Selectors are responsible for the selection of players for these teams, and will play a key role in enhancing communication between the England Cricket Team and First Class Counties.
 
The role will involve significant travel throughout England and Wales, and may involve some overseas travel to support the selection of England teams abroad.
 
 
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
 
Essential
  • Well-respected International or First Class Cricketer
  • Intimate knowledge of First Class cricket in England and Wales
  • Comfortable in relations with cricketers at International and County levels
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of talent identification and development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent media skills
  • Ability to travel extensively within UK and abroad
  • Respect confidentiality and act with discretion at all times
  • Experience of chairing meetings
  • A full driving license

I have played ODI cricket for SA and I am a level 3 coach.

I run a high performance program at Kearsney College and do broadcasting work for Supersport for all domestic cricket in SA.

I have been used as a talent scout since I have retired
