A vacancy has arisen for the position of ECB PR Manager. The ECB PR Manager has a dual reporting line to the Director of Marketing and the Commercial Director but also works closely with a number of ECB departments to fulfil this role. Some of the key areas and personnel are the Head of Commercial Partnerships, Managing Director England Cricket, Director of Communications, Media Managers for each area of the game (England, England Women & non-First Class Cricket, First Class Cricket & England Lions), and Sponsorship Managers and their respective commercial partners. 

 

Overview 
  • Responsible for developing and delivering a proactive PR strategy that forms part of the overall ECB strategic view that aims to inspire the nation to Play, Attend and Follow more cricket 
  • To enhance cricket’s profile as a well governed, commercially successful sport within the business and marketing press 
  • To celebrate and champion the work that the organisation does, game-wide 
  • To consult and advise on corporate issues that will have an impact on public and media perception of the ECB and or cricket 
  • To develop content and story ideas that raise the profile of cricket, ECB competitions, and/or players, and where necessary - produce content for ECB marketing and communications channels 
  • Responsible for consultation, support and promotion of sponsors’ and first class counties PR campaigns 
  • Responsible for aiding in maximizing sponsor’s media exposure through ECB PR activation around its competitions 
  • Responsible for ensuring correct ECB competition nomenclature is used across all media platforms 
  • To be the point of contact, to advise and consult with the ECB charitable partners
Key role and responsibilities: 
The PR Manager will: 
  • work closely with various ECB departments to assist in the planning & delivery of PR related sponsorship activity, for both domestic and international cricket 
  • develop and implement proactive PR based campaigns that deliver against the ECB’s wider communications objectives, and, provide opportunities for sponsors to gain additional exposure through their association with English Cricket. This involves working closely with relevant ECB departments and counties to develop positive news stories, campaigns and events that will provide exposure for sponsors and will also meet the goals of the respective ECB departments 
  • assist at international and domestic events, to deliver player appearances for marketing, corporate social responsibility & commercial activity when required 
  • assist where necessary with England Senior Team media 
  • work cross-departmentally and with numerous stakeholders to ensure a broad knowledge of all subjects affecting the sport – e.g. participation, attendances, legislation and political matters 
  • Working in conjunction with the Marketing, Communications and Commercial Team, the PR Manager will assist in the delivery of a number of wider initiatives including but not limited to: 
  • the delivery of media relations activity when required, at major events/matches 
  • team ‘media days’ and other major announcements, e.g. tour departures, new sponsor announcements (supporting the England Team Media Managers) 
  • specific PR related initiatives designed to generate positive awareness of cricket within non-cricket media – e.g. business, marketing, lifestyle, youth media 
  • to aid the development of content for ECB digital channels during all international tours, home and away 
  • working with members of the marketing team to develop exposure of Women’s, Disability, and recreational cricket, and possibly manage specific projects, within England and Wales 
  • developing relationships with sponsors and their PR agencies, holding regular meetings and reviews 
  • production of research documents that outline the key facts relating to ECB business, for example – attendances, players, participation figures
Personal attributes 
  • An in-depth understanding of the sports and sponsorship industries – either in-house, or agency side 
  • A broad understanding of marketing channels and marketing content 
  • Ability to multi task under pressure with a keen attention to detail 
  • Accomplished communicator with particular focus on written skills 
  • Creative, enthusiastic and motivated to work within the broad landscape of the ECB 
  • Dynamic personality, team player, resourceful and with an ability to work using their own initiative 
  • Knowledge and or experience in the cricket environment would be an advantage
