Quick Tip: "I Got Nothing Out of My Session"

You can always get something from training, even the worst session ever.

Take the example of having to face poor bowling in nets. It's common at club level to see below par bowlers spraying the ball around and wasting top batsmen's time. The batter has every right to think the session is wasted.

Perhaps you went into the net hoping to practice strike rotation against spin. You didn't get it. That's still not a waste; as long as you are fast to think.

When you only get one good ball in four, it becomes a challenge to your patience and focus. You have to reset and be as calm and ready after the first ball as you are after the third wide in a row. You could respond by getting miffed, slogging a few and walking out angry.

Or you can say that now you are only facing 10 good balls the whole net, the pressure is on to exploit them all. Suddenly the net has meaning. You walk out at the end thinking "That's was great, I stayed patient, waited for the right ball and rest after each one no matter what the outcome. I feel ready for the weekend."

How you respond to adverse situations in nets tells you a lot about how you will respond in the middle. It's all about context.
