Pitchvision Academy

Hi,

Desmond Haynes dominates the newsletter this week with some more tips directly from the brain of the former West Indian opener including building techniques and working on technical issues.

Also, Mark Garaway provides more insights for coaches and the Cricket Show has plenty of audio banter in one handy download.

Desmond Haynes Video: Building a Partnership

This video is the 3rd free preview of the online coaching course Batting Lion: the Desmond Haynes Masterclass.

One of the secrets of success of the famous Greenidge-Haynes partnership was their working relationship. They were far more than the sum of their parts.

In this video preview, Des starts to explain the thinking behind this relationship, what they set out to do and what their individual roles were.

Each opening partnership will be different – as yours will be – but you can also find the similarities here.

Desmond Haynes Video: Should you Work on Technical Issues?

This video is the final free preview of the online coaching course Batting Lion: the Desmond Haynes Masterclass.

Everyone thinks that the best way to iron out mistakes is to get in the nets and work on your flaws.

But sometimes that isn’t the case.

In this video Desmond Haynes, former West Indies opener, talks about working on technique after you have got out, and what better approach you can take.

Cricket Show 141: Desmond Haynes

The great Des Haynes week continues on PitchVision Academy. In the show this week we interview the great man about his time playing in the outstanding West Indies sides of the 80s and 90s.

Alongside the Lion of Barbados we also find time to chat about scoring 200 in a 50 over game, the coaches’ perspective on the difference between 40 and 50 overs matches and if you really can come up with a mystery ball at club level (hint: you can).

Plus there are questions answered on bowling in duckers and tips on how to improve your cut shot with the man who humbly bills himself as “specialist throwdown expert” Mark Garaway (we all know he’s a million times better than that).

In this new series on coaching Twenty20 cricket, I reveal the successful concepts that I have used with numerous teams over the years; from Internationals to club level.

Part one is all about batting. Here are my 8 tips to pass on to your batting unit.

1. Stop breather balls

You only have 120 balls so use them all.
