PitchVision Coach of the Year Awards Selection Committee are pleased to announce Praveen Hinganikar as the winner for February.

In a very strong show of support, Praveen was nominated for the award by several of his current and past players and a parent of a current student.

Praveen is a former first-class cricketer who played for 15 years, retiring in 1998 to go into coaching. He spent five years with Central Zone, starting coaching the Under 19s before moving into the Ranji Trophy team.

In 2008, after a rest from coaching to work in cricket administration, he heard the call to start his own Academy: PHCA Nagpur.

Under his supervision, PHCA quickly became an illustrious highly successful centre of excellence for cricketers in the region. Currently the Academy has over 200 players with many already playing state cricket and five first-class cricketers. It’s a track record that is a testament to the great long term commitment of Pravin and his team with many viewing this nomination as a long overdue recognition of his efforts and the contributions he’s made to young players over a decade of coaching.

On hearing of his nomination Praveen was surprised, but clearly delighted to receive the monthly award. Somewhat humbly, Praveen put this success down to a simple philosophy; that successful cricketers are disciplined, fit, masters of the basics and focused on long form skills that underpin short format cricket too.

Thanks to investment in facilities - most notably video analysis and a great team of 10 coaches - PHCA can deliver coaching to players that develops them from the overall philosophy.

Naturally, despite the growth, Praveen spends his time coaching players alongside overseeing the coaching program that is delivered by his crack team. He uses traditional ideas of hard work and mastering the basics alongside modern technology like video analysis to create high-class players.
