What has this story got to do with cricket?

A large parcel delivery company in America has a central warehouse that moves thousands of parcels through every day. Delivery on time is their business so any failure in the conveyor belt means massive losses in profits.

You can guess what happened: The conveyor belt failed.

The company tried to fix it, but everything they tried failed. Time is money so they called in a consultant.

With one look he walked to a small box, opened it, turned a single screw and restarted the belt. It all took less than 2 minutes.

Later his invoice arrived. It was for 0,000.

The company thought that was a lot for 2 minutes work and demanded a breakdown of his bill. He supplied it as follows:

  • ,000 for turning the screw.
  • ,000 for knowing which screw to turn.

What has this got to do with cricket?

Sometimes your performance isn't about training harder or trying harder. It's about knowing what to do at the right moment: Knowing which screw to turn. Sometimes it takes a great coach to show you this, sometimes you can work it out for yourself.

Hopefully I am helping with that a little bit. That's my aim.
