Club cricket glossary

Filed in:

Club cricket has a lot of terms that are totally alien to newcomers in the game. I thought it would be interesting to collect these terms into a glossary to make it easier for everyone new or old.

Email me your suggestions for odd cricket terms, especially those used in club cricket.

Here are a couple to start you off.

  • Cow corner. A position on the ground located somewhere between deep midwicket and long on, club cricketers of lesser skill often aim to hit the ball there.
  • Dinkies. The Second XI
  • Jack. The team captain, from the rhyming slang: Jack the Ripper = Skipper
  • Triggered. To be given out by an over zealous umpire.
  • Snorter. A very good delivery, usually beating the bat with a lot of movement.

I need your help for more. Get in touch with your best terms.
