Marketing Manager - Recreational Cricket
Based at Lord’s Cricket Ground
6 month contract – start date November
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is responsible for developing and delivering cricket from the Playground to Test Arena. A fundamental part of our role is sustaining and growing participation at grassroots level.
The purpose of this role is to develop and manage marketing campaigns to support the Cricket Partnerships Team at ECB, who are responsible for recreational cricket.
The successful candidate will sit in the Marketing team (within the Commercial department), but support the recreational cricket department in the promotion of numerous products and services to a network of 6,000 recreational cricket clubs and approximately a million club cricketers, ahead of the 2015 season.
This exciting role requires someone who is passionate about grassroots sport and has an ambition to be a successful marketer.
Roles and responsibilities
To develop campaigns promoting numerous products to the recreational cricket network, including:
- NatWest CricketForce – a weekend of events taking place at over 2,200 clubs before the new season, where clubs galvanise their members to help improve their facilities
- Club Open Days with Waitrose – over 1,000 clubs holding Open Days for potential members during the season
- A campaign to educate stakeholders including umpires, leagues & groundsmen about importance of "getting the game on" in event of wet weather, given the number of cancellations / abandonments last season.
To develop campaigns to promote numerous products directly to players, including:
- Last Man Stands – an 8 a side, 2 hour version of cricket – played mostly on weekday evenings
- Play-cricket.com – ECB’s statistical home of recreational cricket
- Indoor cricket – traditionally a six a side format of the game, played in the winter
Integral role within the Marketing team to promote these products across ECBs marketing channels, including ecb.co.uk, play-cricket.com, social media and TwelfthMan, but also through county cricket boards, leagues, and clubs.
Managing agencies to produce marketing materials
Representing the Marketing Team at meetings concerning recreational cricket
Person specification
Essential
- demonstrable experience in a marketing role
- university-level qualification
- an understanding of and passion for cricket and/or grassroots sport development
- experience of working in or managing creative agencies
- experience of developing and delivering multi-channel marketing plans
- ability to build and manage multiple stakeholder relationships
- a strong understanding of brand development
- confident in building relationships with senior management
- an understanding of key marketing channels (e.g. email, social, digital)
