Community Coach: Wiltshire Cricket

Closing Date: 18th October 2013

Wiltshire Cricket Limited wish to appoint a Community Coach who will lead on the delivery of the Board’s secondary school Cricket offer. The Board has recently produced an offer that outlines all of the various programmes and services that are available to schools through Cricket. The role of the Community coach will be to work with the Wiltshire Cricket Development team to identify the needs of each secondary school throughout the county. Having identified which aspects of the offer are appropriate to each secondary school, the Community coach will then be responsible for delivering in each of these schools.

The post is being supported by the Cricket Foundation through the Board’s Chance to Shine funding and by Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP). The successful candidate’s work programme will be managed by the Wiltshire Cricket Development Officer (Head of School’s Cricket) with a view to ensuring that Cricket becomes embedded in to secondary schools’ cultures throughout the county. The post holder will be an integral part of achieving the outcome of creating a sustainable future for cricket by attracting people to participate in Sport with cricket as their sport of choice.

Primarily, the post holder’s time will be spent out of office, delivering in secondary schools. This delivery will include:

  • Delivering extra curriculum coaching sessions (this could be to groups of boys or girls at both KS3 and/or KS4)
  • Delivering curriculum based sessions to support schools in preparing for intra school competition or to help generate interest in extra curriculum opportunities
  • Organising and running both intra school and inter school competitions, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of Wiltshire Cricket’s secondary school competition framework
  • Running informal teacher training sessions
  • Organising and delivering ECB Cricket Activator sessions to groups of secondary school students
  • All of the above activities will not run in isolation but will instead form part of a wider plan for cricket in each school and their wider community. With that in mind, a further key aspect of this role is to facilitate migration of players between schools and clubs. This will mean engaging with local cricket clubs to understand their needs and to support them in achieving these needs by integrating their plans with those of their local secondary schools.

Outside of school hours and during school holidays the post holder will also have responsibility for other aspects of work including managing and delivering on the Wiltshire Cricket Holiday camp programme. The post holder will also work closely with local partners such as WASP to identify suitable opportunities for Sportivate programmes and any other County Sports Partnership opportunities that may arise.

Applicants to this post must be able to demonstrate sound coaching experience and be of a minimum UKCC2 qualification in Cricket. An ability to deliver to wide ranging audiences, both adult and junior, is also important. Candidates must possess good organisation and time management skills and be self-motivated with an ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Some experience of working within a local cricket club junior section or club committee is also desirable.

Applicants must hold a full driving licence and have their own transport. The post holder will also be required to work evenings and weekends as and when required.

The post is for an initial 24 month fixed term (subject to a successful probationary period) after which the post will be reviewed subject to future funding.

  • CONTRACT – Full time position (24 month contract with view to extension depending on funding)
  • HOURS – 37 hours per week (flexible)
  • SALARY – CIRCA £16,000 + EXPENSES
