Vishi' Training Log

Hey,

I am Vishi,i am 15 years old, I am a fast medium bowler, and a developing batsmen, I have been playing cricket all my life but i have working hard from the last 2 years. This season i was the highest wicket taker for the my club. And as the result i had a trial for the district team here and i got in academy for the first phase and working hard to get in the team and play in the U17 national tournament for my State.

THIS IS MY WINTER ROUTINE-IT LIKE RAINS HERE ALMOST EVERYDAY!

Total time about - 3 and a half hours

My routine on weekdays-

6:30am-7:30am -FITNESS-

-Core exercises
-A lot of stretches
-A bit of yoga
-Push ups
-Abs exercises
-Out side workout , like squats and circuits etc
-Skipping
-Ladder running
-Boxing about 5 mins (Just to get the arms going)

Then i have school From 8:30 to 3:10 pm

I come back home walking by about 3:45

Then eat etc and start more training

4:30-6:00pm - Bowling- I go to a nearby school and practice

If you want to know more about what i do in bowling you can ask and i can tell you a few pointers.

6:10-6:20PM- Jogging-

10 minutes of jogging might sound little , but i run really fast and i time my run and try to get better times, its really quite tiring.

6:20 - 7:30pm - is BREAK-
-take a shower
-watch some cricket or tv etc

7:30-8:30pm -Batting-
I do quite a lot in batting, so if you guys want to know some drills or work i do, you can surely ask and i can help you out.

Then from 8:30 to about 9:45pm , i like to watch cricket on the internet or watch TV, but i try to take about 15 minutes of reflection or diary writing time.

Well that's my routine on week days, i will be writing my Weekends routine soon-

PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANy HELP OR POINTERS ON THIS ROUTINE OR OTHER STUFF, feel free to tell me as that's the whole point. Smiling

Thanks a lot and i will try to update these logs daily!

Tell me some more about your bowling practice..

Now days, i am going hard on accuracy.

I put out 3 cones, in a triangle and the area between them is the "Good Length" area and then with full run-up i try to bowl between the cones and (all this is on a proper pitch but with no batsmen).

What i try to concentrate on-

1. Is my head still when i am bowling?
2. Am i running in powerfully and in a straight line?
3. Is my follow through hard, and in line with the line of the ball.
4. You may want to also concentrate on keeping your wrist locked , if you havent got that sorted yet.
5. And i focus on only 1 of the 3 cones and till the end i look at that and nothing else.

Before i start this, i set my field in my mind , field for good length bowling. and then i give runs to each bowl ,and see how many i can get in between the cones out of 6 bowls.

I also like to plan out my spell before starting.

I get 3-5 bowls in between the cones nowdays.
And sometimes even 6.

I do bowling practise for about 1 to 1 and a half hours everyday- (These are school days) on weekends i do more.

You may also try to add other things in.

Any more questions and suggestions or any drills you know are welcome.

Thanks!

Good stuff Vishi.  Its great to be so focussed during training.  Theres that old addage - you play how you pratice.  If you practice with intensity/focus then it you will automatically play with intensity/focus

Thanks a lot for your kind words, are there any other drills or things i can do to improve my accuracy that you may suggest?

Now after my bowlig training which finishes at about 6:30pm,( it gets dark but summer is soon aproaching and then the sun stays till 8:30 to even 9 pm.)

But after 6:30 i also spend about 10 mins just concentrating on my bowling tecnique.

I work on things like my action etc .

Now i have a long weekend for 4 days so i am really looking to spend about 5 hours per day training and the weather is good too!

And 2 days ago ,1 of my training month fineshed , it started on 17th july and finished on 17th august. I got 71 hours of training done in the month (this is withhin school term), my goal is to get 100 hours per month and as summer is appoaching it will be easier to achieve this per month and soon when it goes quite sunny , then i am going to achieve 150 hours per month.

Cant wait for sunny skies!

Question-

David if i send you a video of my action will you be able to tell me some pointers if anything is wrong with it?

People usually like my action but it would be great to get advice from you too.

Hey Guys,

My trial for yesterday. There were 22 tryling yesterday including me, and the rest 14 of the group of 36 and a couple of pople will trial again , next sunday. We were broken into 2 teams of 11, and my team was bowling first. I and my friend Abhishek were asked to open the bowling for our team. Eventhough i am quite a strong wicket taker bowler , i did not get any wicket in the trial but the good thing is that the coaches know how i bowl as we had 3 trainings before this trial match, and that they know that i was the highest wicked taker for my club too. I know know that the reason i didnt pick up wickets was that i was trying too hard. I wasnt concentrating on the spot but on the deleviring stride, that is a reason i kept loosing my rhypthm and run up. I didnt do that badly with figures of

0 wickets - 6 overs- 21 runs eventhough the batsmen only played one aggresive shot on me, most were edges.

We got them on 148 after 50 overs.

The surprising thing was that all the top order players in both teams execpt for
2 or 3 players all got out very early in both teams.

The trial coaches didnt knwo how much i improved my batting from last couple of months thats why they put me number 11 for our team batting second. But everyone was going to get a bat as it was a trial and if someone was not getting out then they would retire them. When i went to bat only 1 guy had been retired from our team and eveyone else got out!

We needed 40-45 runs on the last patnership. I stayed very focused and confident and told the other guy to just rotate the strike and as we had many overs to go. I started my first 2 balls shaky, but then got my mindset together.

And went to make a match winning innings and stayed not out till the end and they had to reitre me and hit 2 boundires and delt mostly in singles. We won the game in 47th over. And when i came back to the paviliion ervery one was clapping and shaking hands and a seletor came up to me and said , "well done mate , good batting ", "You dont look like a Number 11 to me?"

And i just laughed and said , " I dont usually bat number 11"

I batted like a top order batsmen and stayed quite solid, eventhough i wanted to play a few more shots , i kept them reserver as i didnt want to get out and stay NOT OUT till the end.

But all in all very happy with my Batting and fielding performance.

But with my abilty and the amount of practise i put in my bowling , i know that i should have done a lot better and was capable of doing a lot better and thats what everyone was expecting. But atleast i know what i did wrong and will correct it next time.

Hopefully i will get in and may have to go for anoyhter trial on coming sunday.

The results will come in about 2 weeks.

Today i had a rest day eventhough i dont usually have rest days. As my body needd the rest and felt a little tired. And tommaroe 6:30am my practise starts again!

Well goddnight and hope to write tommarow.
