ok, well after miraculously finding this website sue to typing in on google"tips on opening the batting" i have read jacks training log and been quite interested. I am 14 years old, 15 ina month, going into year 11. Currently playing for 2 different under 15 sides, a saturday 2nd XI, sunday games, and under 17s. I'm from leicester by the way so on saturdays play Everards League. I am a batsman, only started cricket properly last season. Don't really have any goals apart from making myself a regular in the second team which i have this season and getting some runs.Played to many games to remember a batting average but i have taken 14 catches this season Laughing out loud. batting started off really well, slowed in the middle, picked up again and i feel its slowing again Sad. Don't really have any specific fitness or nutrition plans as im 14 and dont feel it needed. Whenever im batting next in the order i get really nervous and when im out there it takes me quite a few balls to feel comforatable. Im a defensive batsman and for mens bat between 3 and 6, u15s 3 and for the other under 15s 6. Sunday's bat wherever to be honest. I have opened for the mens and u15s as it suits my style but i don't liek it and much prefer 3-6. If im honest i really want to work on my nerves and in a game i tend to push at shots instead of playing them properly and that is because i don't want to get out. I don;t know why i do this as i have more chance of getting out by pushing at it. Also i NEVER run my bat in. get told this so many times, got ran out today partly from it, wouldnt have made it anyway, but i dont really know how i dont, i always think i do. Really pointless thing but thought i would say. I would love some feedback as i said only really second season of proper cricket where ive been taking it seriously. Will do match report stuff after each game. Will do a weekend summary after tomorrows game as im knackered now. Anyway, feedback would be fantastic. Thanks.

ok even though i am fairly tired will give an account of saturdays game (yesterday).
Playing the top side (we're fifth), who are a third team but their first team is in the prem and second team is in div 1 so they are still a really good side. Won the toss and we fielded first. Got them all out for 238 with an over to go so we had 46 overs in which to get it. good achievment getting them all out! didn't really have much to do in the field, fielded ok though.
I spoke to the captain and suggested me going in at 6 as if we have a collapse as their bowling side is so strong, im a batsman who can bat for the draw. They did have very strond bowlers, two of them playing 2nd team cricket but as their are so many people in the firsts and seconds they got dropped to the thirds. they were very quick! came in at 6 when all was required is to bat for the draw, felt ok, had a left arm spinner one end and a very quick bowler at the other. could have possibly gone for the spinner a bit more as he wasnt all that but didnt want to lose my wicket so left a lot of the balls and defended them. the quick bowler was a completely different story though. he was really pacey, shaping it away, at times i didnt have a clue! i stood quite far outside my crease to him to stop the swing as best i could, didnt work to much though. got hit on the toe and thigh pad a couple of times but didnt let the other teams seldging get in the way. Lasted 11 overs and just as i was getting use to the pace and playing some good looking shots and felt really good as this guy has been playign div 1 cricket for more than half the season, i played a good shot over gully, ran one then said no for the second hesitated, other guy calledd yes but because of the hesitation i didnt make it in, plus i didnt slide my bat in. I really need advice or links for that and running between wickets. although i only made 3 i did a job. i stayed in, had some really sharp bowlers at me but stood strong and felt good. we got the losing draw in tthe end which was good as this side is top and unbeaten winning every game apart from two winning draws against second place so excellent result. As i said i made 3 so cant say i batted well or anything like that but quickest bowlers ive faced, got used to them now i feel i can handle quick bowlers and nearly every quick bowler i face now should be easier than yesterday, so everythings good in that aspect. felt good yesterday. anyway, after feeling good about myself and quick bowlers, really quick! i played today and was in 3, came in 3rd-4th over so had opening bowlers for about 9 -10 overs. quick but not compared to yesterday so i was feeling comfortable so i thnk yesterday really helped, i hope it did anyway! will do a report of today tomorrow cus again im knackered, please any questions would be really good

so yeah the sunday game (im a day behind lol)
batting first, i was in at 3. two openers a first teamer who bats down the order and the u17s opener, the first teamer got out in 3rd over for 5 so i came in. steadied things like i do. felt ok against the openers, pitch was a bit of a lottery when if it hit one spot would jus pop up nd hit you, nothing dangerous as the pitch was slow but still meaning you were to early on the shot. played fairly straight, tried to flick on early on which caused a top edge but managed to fall safely so then tried to stay straight as possible. saw out the openers, had a spinner and then a medium paced bowler, nothing to sharp, should have really got more runs out of those bowlers but dunno why i didnt tbh. really need to work on pushing the innings on and when i do what kinda shots to play etc. i mean today felt good played some decent shots but then about 15-16 overs gone i had a few to many dot balls and tried to push the innings on and caught at mid off for 13. got a 50 partnership and felt good, few decent shots but a bit slow batting wise although i was in for 12 overs i probably faced around 15-30 ish deliveries then as i tried to hit some runs as i had about 8 dot balls ina row i jus lost my head. would be grateful for tips in this area. anyway average batting performance, need to keep my head. felt okay though.

fielding was good, took a fairly simple catch to take it to 15 catches for season. got a bowl which is very rare, bowled 2 overs and took a wicket whihc is very rare lol. enjoyed the game, jus wanna know how i should push the innings on a bit more.

had the mens midweek game today.
16 overs a side. we're in the top division as last year we put all our first teamers to thrash everyone and we won the league so got promoted. this season we saw it as a chance to mix it up so we've had about 4 first teamers, 4 second teamers, then 3 u17s nd 15s. all the other teams in league put out good sides with about 7-8 first teamers. we batted first today, i was in at 4. came in jus before 8 overs. batted fairly well, starting off with two fours from my first 3 balls, but then seemed to try and make to much room for myself on offside and trying to hit the ball while i was moving. still batted well though with some nice shots and some good batting, need to improve on my running between wickets as today i wasnt running the first one hard enough and in this format of cricket every run is vital and big scores are needed( last week 150 was set in 16 overs) so i felt the pressure after dot balls because im not a big hitter but anyway was in till the end getting a nice 25 not out, probably should of got to 30-32 had i been running the first one alot harder, though i was getting really tired as you have to do a lot of running. anyway we got a score of 100 which i didnt think would be enough but we managed to win by 7 runs which was good Smiling fielding was ok, didnt have to do much to be honest. great win and first in this format as we usually play very good teams. happy with my contribution on a tuesday night as my 3 scores have been 23*, 11, 25* meaning on a tuesday i have an average of 59 in what is a good standard of mens cricket. happy days.

sorry havent updated for a while, played weds for u15s, easy win, took a dolly of a catch, won by 9 wickets, didnt bat. pointless game tbh. 16 catches for the season though.

played today for 2nd team. we're 4th playing 5th. always going to be a good game! lost the toss, with the rain the night before the track was damp and the morning was overcast and dark so we were put into bat. lost an opener early on in 4th over. i was in at 3. got a goldie Sad, tried to defend the ball, apaprently head didnt get over the ball, bat was staggered so only thing that was going to happen was the ball plopping into the air, bowler caught it. very angry/dissapointed with myself but i have to get over it. anyway the wicket soon dried out and we managed to put on 214 in 45 overs for the loss of 6 wickets which was going to be a decent total to defend.

they came out and started off quickly but lost 2 wickets early on and were on 29-2 off 5 overs.
they're number 1 and 4 both batted brillaintly though and after 26/27 overs they were 152-2 with both pl;ayers making 50. we were really down in the dumps and thought the game had slipped from us. then we bought a spinner on and i caught number 4 at long off, decent catch jus had to come forward a little, should have been caught and was caught. broke the partnership and there was a bit more life in the field but still a big ask. they needed soemthing like 75 to win off17 overs with 7 wickets in hand. pressure still on us. opener came back on to bowl. fielding half way between mid off and long off. got number 1 out with a very good catch. going over my head and had to back track quite a way and took it over my head jus a little behind me. really happy with it. 18 for season. everyone came charging to me. big wicket to take. pressure shifted a bit now. anyway they had a couple of 16-20 year olds batting and we took a further two wickets and they needed 12 to win of 3 overs. that turned to 7 off last one. they needed 3 off the final ball to win. they got 2, in fact it was a run out but their umpire claimed he couldnt see it as there were to many people in the way. fair enough. it wouldnt have made any difference regarding points. ended up on tie but we get the most points. fantastic game. closest most atmospheric game ive been in as there were quite a few people watching as all other games had finished. did awful with bat, fielded well though. really wanna work on my batting on saturdays. technical fault today, will hopefully make some next week though!
