Whats your greatest acheivement?

This month I want to centre the discussion on your greatest achievement as a cricketer.

Don’t be afraid to boast about what you have done, even if you think it’s nothing compared to others. I want to get a feel for how you play, and I’m sure you are dying to know what others have achieved.

Mine is winning player of the year for my club in 2008. It meant a lot because I had only been at the club a couple of seasons but had improved greatly after starting this site. So I felt my methods had been vindicated.

What's yours?

I think mine is when I scored my first hndred, I have scored better but this one was special because I had never done it before I felt like I had made a bit of a break through that day. I thought at the time I would go on the play for India but I still havent made it that far. I hope I can.

scoring 76 after doing a really big pre-season in order to 'play-properly again' at the ripe old age of 39.

Between age 34-38 I was getting worse and worse and really felt like giving it away as I couldnt enjoy it feeling maybe I had just reached an age where I just 'lost it' - which was really depressing after being a 'good' player all my life.

I worked hard, and found that i could still play and theres no such thing as too old!
It was the best moment for me!

since returning to play cricket at my local club 5 years ago i've won our players player trophy 4 out of the 5 years. im by no means the best cricketer on the side but love the fact that the lads appreciate what i do over the year- little things like keeping the crack going, chirping at batsmen (in a funny way no going over the top) chucking my self after everything in the field and putting my body on the line. it makes me very proud to have won it so many times as i think its the best trophy to win.
this year im taking on the captaincy and hope that the same brand of banter and everyone having a great team spirit will bring us a promotion!

I think mine has to be in 2004. I was captaining our 3rd XI and had 10 men, so asked one of the Dads to come along. We turned up late and were stuck in and after ten overs were 9 for 6.

Keeping the lads (young and old alike) going to get us to 102 all out in 41 overs felt like a miracle in itself, but inspiring them to keep in the game in the field felt like my greatest ever achievement.

We ran out the non-striker first ball of the opposition's innings, and had reduced them to 100-8 and we'd run out of bowler. Throwing the ball to a 15-year-old who'd never bowled before in league cricket was rewarded when he bowled the #9 with his first ball. Two wides and a dot ball later we were resigned to defeat, but then the #11 had a wild swish and was clean bowled, too, tying the match!

OK, so I didn't do exceptionally well with ball or bat (0 and 2/21 off 12 overs), but it felt like a huge achievement because we looked dead and buried after about 20 minutes.

Mine was early last season after a concerted effort to get fitter during pre season, scoring 71 not out. This vindicated the time running stretching ,gym and nets etc during the previous winter.A good friend of mine always nagged me with 'the older you get the harder and smarter you have to train' - that knock made that statement make sense!

Hi David, It's Dale here and I am 12 years old playing cricket in Johannesburg South Africa.

I am school and club captain and these teams won 30 out of 34 matches last year. My batting average was just above 68 with seven half centuries and 20 not outs. I took 22 wickets. School matches were 20 overs each while club matches were 30 to 40 overs.

In December I was selected for the South East Gauteng Provincial team as captain. We played in the Regional Provincial Tournament in Worcester in the Western Cape and lost every match .
Batting was difficult because the pitches were slow and the bounce was not consistent.
On certain days bowling was also tough because of very, very windy conditions. Our opponents also played better than us.

After the tournament I was selected as an Invitation Player for the Tournaments under 13 A team to tour Dubai in March to play in The Nations Cup Tournament arranged by Young Talents Cricket Academy.

I don't know for sure who our opponents will be, but we have been told that we will play against Academy or Representative teams from UAE, India, Pakistan and Namibia. Durham from England has sent a team in the past and I hope they will be there this year. The tour is for 11 days and I am incredibly excited.

For the past 2 years I have attended athletic fitness and strength training either 2 or 3 times a week and I practice batting, bowling and fielding at least 3 times a week during the season. I love fielding and think I drive my dad mad with how often I get him to hit me catches or feed bowling machine balls to me. I like bowling to him because he has coached me for many years, and is still a very good batsman.

I am nervous, because I think that conditions in Dubai will also be very different to what I have been used to. Do you have any advice for me on how best to approach batting and bowl my off spin on these wickets?

My goals for this year are to learn new skills, have fun, enjoy the experiences and opportunities given to me, earn provincial cricket again and to score 2 centuries during the year and to take 3 five fors. I never dreamed that I would also be playing in another country against their teams.

I am practicing with a lot of intensity and just believing in myself to do the best that I can for all the teams that I am lucky enough to play for.

Promise to let you know how the tour goes for us.

Yeah for me, I felt as though I had a shocking game in the semi final, for most players, this is getting a king pair and a gallon with the rock.

But for me, I got 120... OFF 160 BALLS, and only 70* in the next dig, and only took 13 wickets for the game.

We scraped through that game by about 350 runs and an innings, but next game in the final, I pulled it together.

I made 350* (250) and 180 (60) (a few sixes in that knock). And I took 10/12 in the first dig, and took 9/6 in the second one, and I actually got the other wicked with a run out, not quite the heroics with the ball as before in the season, but we did win that one.
