Bowling run ups on and off season

Hi, I am a left arm fast / swing bowler(29yrs, 6'3, 210lbs - if important / relevant). As is the practice in UK, I train indoors during off season (winter). Due to space limitations at most facilities, I have a short run up about 10 strides of which I tend to walk the first three, build up speed and gather the action in the last three before letting it rip. This has helped me keep my ankles safe over the years, I struggle with overpronation / flat footed / whatever the latest term for it is. When I switch to outdoors, I struggle to keep the pace up with my normal run up which is also quite short (15strides). I appreciate that outdoors is slower than indoors but my feet are absolutely battered in a game.

I have recently got smarter and seen a physio regarding the effects of over pronation on calf / shin muscles. The net result of Β£30 has been that I have extreme over pronation and need to manage my feet better. Also, this could be resulting in a drop in pace. The question is: Could the pronation issue be the underlying cause for shins and calves being stressed and the results being a drop in run - up speeds and and and ... I am looking at remedial shoes, etc but I would like to know if anyone struggling with this condition has had a similar experience and what they did to get better.

Hi Amit,

From what I have heard from coaches like Ian Pont, reading player interviews on the web, and also seeing some bowlers in action, it is very possible to bowl quick from a slow and very short run up.

Jeff Thomson's spped during his last strides was only 13.7 km /h, that's like jogging leisurely.

Simon Jones and Mitchell Johnson don't run at all. They pretty much jog a short distance to the crease.
