Is there a more inspirational sporting success story than that of the Afghanistan cricket team?

The team have enjoyed fairytale success and PitchVision, through their weekly coaching podcast, have got the inside track in an interview with current coach Kabir Khan.

The story is so special because up until 2000 there was no cricket allowed in the country, under Taliban rule. There were no coaches or facilities then and even now there is very little, the team having to go to Pakistan to practice. This has not stopped their success; winning competitions and moving from World Cricket League Division 5 to Division 1 in just 3 years.

Then in 2010 the magic happened. After surprising more experienced countries in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers and gaining full ODI status (as number 14 in the world), the team pulled off a jaw dropping victory in the ICC World Twenty20 qualifier to gain them a place in the full competition to play against South Africa and India.

It's a story to inspire cricket teams from the village green upwards. Anyone can have success despite the odds.

As champions of the grass roots game, PitchVision were inspired to find out how the Afghans did it. Who better to ask than the coach: Kabir Khan? So, The PitchVision Academy Cricket Show tracked him down, interviewed him and found out how it was done so others can emulate it. The results can be heard on the show.

Host of the show David Hinchliffe said "So often I hear excuses from club teams saying they don't have the time or resources to prepare properly. But the Afghan example shows cricketers at all levels that playing well isn't about having the best kit and facilities; it's about how much you really want it and how hard you are prepared to work. I think that comes across strongly in our interview with Kabir and I'm grateful he allowed us to talk to him during a busy period."
