PitchVision helps spinners improve flight and guile

Filed in:

Ashley Giles using PitchVisionNew cricket coaching product PitchVision is helping spinners improve their flight and turn by tracking every ball in training.

All good spinners know the importance of getting the ball above the batsman's eye line before making it turn on pitching. But there has never been a way to accurately track how a spinner is improving in these key areas. At best the spinner could ask the batsman.

PitchVision has changed all that using portable sensor mats can be quickly put into any cricket net. When the ball hits the sensor, data is sent wirelessly to a laptop or mobile phone. The software then instantly records the pace, flight and turn of the ball. The spinner can view his performance in that ball, over the training session, or even over an entire career.

The coaching applications of this information are only limited as the imagination. For example, coaches and players can compare how accuracy changes over the course of a bowling spell or what the ideal pace is to get the ball to turn the most. If there is a batter in the net, the bowler can see how position on the crease relates to the batsman's reaction to the ball.

The mats can also be used for a range of other coaching data including batting power, batting precision and 100 other statistics available instantly after a ball is delivered. It's the first time technology seen at the highest level has been affordable and accessible to all cricketers. The system is available worldwide.
