Sunny's Training Log

Hi ya'all,
This is Sunny here from Kolkata, India. I bat in the middle order but I must admit my first love has always been to get my leg breaks turning square. Everyday I step closer to discover that its just a step further, ha ha. Still I can't complain cos through all the bad days and the good I find something to smile 'bout. I hope to share and grow here in PV. I will be posting my workout routine and diet later in the day. Cant wait for your responses.
ciao.

Hi! I'm back !
Just came back from the gym. Had planned just to do forearms today but could'nt help myself from hitting a few sets of shoulder raises. All in all it was a light training session as I stayed away from really heavy weights and big compound moves. I am looking to increase my upper body strength as well as my abdominal strength right now.
My post work out meal consisted of 2 poached eggs, dal and 1 roti. I have seen this macro-nutrient profile of low carbs and high protein helps me drop fat while adding muscle mass without restricting my calories. It's 3 pm now will be off to do some S.A.Q drills in half an hour. will check back in 3 hrs.
Ciao.
P.S. I was wondering how I could add photos to my post as well as change some account settings like adding my picture to my profile. Any Ideas?

Welcome along Sunny. It will be interesting to see how it's done in Kolkata. What type of cricket do you play?

Welcome Sunny!
Happy to help any way I can - it's always great to see a quality leg spinner exhibitting their craft!
I have a video of Shane Warne (you may have heard of him!) giving a 'Master Class' for Channel 9 in Sydney that might be helpful as a reference point for your development!

Check out

Look forward to following your progress - and helping of course!

Hey Thanks John! Hmmm, Shane Warne you say. Yeah, um, I think I might have heard of him, i dunno , didnt he like bowl or something? Ha ha just kidding. I too came across this video along with Terry Jenner's Masterclass on Youtube and boy were my eyes opened! Interesting to see the importance both of them gave to flight over turn ( something I believe people miss all too often).
In fact I am in the process of booking a chance to meet up with Mr Jenner himself. I just found out about it yesterday night. I'll be making calls after I hit the post button. Keepin all my finger and toes crossed, know what i mean?
Catch ya later.

kolkata eh? maharaja's home ....you just reminded me of dada by mentioning kolkata Sad miss him...

anyways...how's cricket in kolkata? do you play for a club/school/college ??

I play Division cricket at the club level here in Kolkata. And things are quite different here than places like uk or aus. Skills like quick learning and thinking on your feet are developed here having to make the best use of resources available.
On to the coaching front, things seem to be on track as I have booked a place for myself for a spin doctor session with Terry Jenner. Will post details soon.

Interesting stuff. What sort of format do you play? My league plays 50 over one day cricket but to confuse things delccarations and draws are still possible.

Here matches range from 35 over friendlies,50 over and 90 over(2 days)league matches.Hey David, can you tell me how to upload an image on to my profile. I have been trying without much luck.

As for my training, Im enjoying a lovely off day with my loved ones eating and frolicking to my heart's content today. Will be penning down tomorrows schedule shortly. This something I picked from Jack Canfield and has helped me immensely to stay on track over a period of time.
Tomorrow its going to be weight training my upper body's big muscle groups with compound moves. I follow Mike Mentzer's training regime ( you can find it here http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/becker22.htm and dont worry its NOT gonna make you huge!!!) . I go for the super slow moves based on something I picked up here http://www.athleticquickness.com/Training-Programs.asp , will post results if anyone's interested.
ciao.

I must admit to not being a fan of slow training. Cricket is a fast game. Interesting theory though.

I'm not sure you can upload an image.

Just came back from practice. My aim is to crystallize a technically correct action with the following variables dealt with:
1. run up angle and speed/rhythm
2. pre delivery stride alignment
3. release
5 follow through

Good news is that I am getting more consistent in areas 1, 2 and 3. The follow through (and thus run up length and speed) still need refinement. All this is led to the ball spinning more consistently on the seam. However the number of revolutions need increasing, this will be brought about by keeping the wrist cocked till the last moment before release. I still feel I dont have enough confidence on how I am holding the ball.

Will post updates soon.
