Case Study Profile: Pat

case-study.jpgPat is the first player in the harrowdrive.com case study series this year.

Pat is a 37 year old all rounder playing in the WEPL Wiltshire Division in the UK. Pat bats and bowls averaging around 20 last year in each discipline. He is captain of the side.

Mental Skills

Pat essential plays for the fun of the game but is keen to succeed and prepared to put in work away from the pitch to do so. This is an excellent starting point.

As a result of this, Pat has set himself some challenging but realistic goals for the season. He is aiming to score 500 runs and take 20 wickets with the team finishing in the top 3 after a poor season last year. He considers fitness to be the main barrier to this success. I aim to build on this positive outlook and show Pat how he can make his goals even more specific to the aims he has.

Pat has tried some mental training techniques in the past. I want him to revisit these and build on them. The aim is to stop Pat from getting into a negative mindset and show him how he can play with a sense of clarity and 'being in the moment'.

Team/Captaincy Skills

Pat is an experienced captain so there is little need for him to understand the tactical nuts and bolts of the game. I aim to work with Pat to show him how to get the best out of everyone in the team. This is a challenge in a club side where players change regularly and often the best players are taken into higher standard teams at the last moment.

Fitness

Pat currently trains 3 times a week on top of nets once a week and coaching. His training is predominantly long, slow cardio on a cross trainer. I will encourage Pat to re jig his fitness work to make it more cricket specific.

Pat has a relatively high BMI but is working to lose some weight before the start of the season. The new training plan will also help with Pat's general health and help him reach a healthy BMI.

Nutrition

Pat currently follows the Slim Fast system for weight loss. While this is a good 'quick fix' Pat is not getting all the nutrients he needs from his current diet for performance or health. Over the coming weeks I will ask Pat to make a few small changes to his diet to give him more energy, better body composition and help him feel healthier.

Progress

All Pat's progress (good or bad) will be tracked here. I believe the changes we are going to make will have a positive impact on Pat's game this summer. Stay tuned to find out.
