Communications and Operations Officer- Recreational Cricket

Based in The ECB Office at Lancashire County Cricket Ground

12 month contract (covering Maternity Leave) – start date January 2015

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is responsible for developing and delivering cricket from the Playground to Test Arena.  A fundamental part of our role is sustaining and growing participation at grassroots level.

The purpose of this role is to develop and manage communication and marketing campaigns to support Community Club Cricket as part of the Cricket Partnerships Team at ECB, who are responsible for recreational cricket. 

The successful candidate will sit in the Places team (within the cricket partnerships department), but support recreational cricket clubs in the promotion of numerous products and services to a network of 5500 recreational cricket clubs in England and Wales throughout 2015

This exciting role requires someone who is passionate about grassroots sport and has an ambition to be a successful communicator and marketer.

 

Roles and responsibilities

To develop, manage and promote numerous products and services to the recreational cricket club network, including but not exclusively:

  • NatWest CricketForce (NWCF) a weekend of events taking place at over 2,200 clubs before the new season, where clubs galvanise their members to help improve their facilities. This includes the Jewson Privilege Account Scheme – A scheme to help clubs purchase materials and tools to complete volunteer facility projects as part of NWCF.
  • Club Open Days with Waitrose – over 1,000 clubs holding Open Days for potential members during the season
  • To enhance and service www.ecb.co.uk/clubsupport including development and management of on-line resources
  • To support a campaign to educate stakeholders including umpires, leagues, captains & groundsmen about importance of "getting the game on" in event of wet weather, given the number of cancellations / abandonments last season.

Integral role within the Places team to promote these products across all opportunities which may include; ECBs marketing channels, including ecb.co.uk, play-cricket.com, social media and TwelfthMan, but also through county cricket boards, leagues, and direct to clubs.

Managing agencies to produce marketing materials

Representing the Places Team at meetings concerning recreational cricket

Working with other ECB departments and staff including The ECB Commercial and Communications teams and particularly the ECB Recreational Marketing Manager

 

Person specification

Essential

  • demonstrable experience in a communication and marketing role
  • university-level qualification
  • an understanding of and passion for cricket and/or grassroots sport development
  • experience of working in or managing creative agencies
  • experience of developing and delivering multi-channel marketing plans
  • ability to build and manage multiple stakeholder relationships
  • a strong understanding of brand development
  • an understanding of key marketing channels (e.g. email, social, digital)
