Quick Tip: How to Start the Season Well

Filed in:

This week's quick tip is courtesy of a question from Neil in Mumbai:

"I play school and club cricket. I have also played the MCA tournament with the state players. My cricket tournament are starting on 10 October. As it is still rainy here the wickets will be quite damp. Please can you give some advice to handle the tough situation, and score big runs in the begining of this new season?"

We have all been excited and hopeful at the start of the new season like Neil. And we have all had good and bad starts. So how do you make sure this year is a good one?

Regardless of conditions, you don't need to change much with the bat; take time to get a feel for the pitch, look to play forward unless you are driven back and have a method for staying focused (especially if you go off for showers).

I woild recommend a systematic method of practice that improves your ability to play straigh. Something like 4 Angles would do a great job to improve your net time.

But finally, don't forget that bad starts are not the end of the world. You may get a run of low scores - we all do at some point - but the best batsmen are the ones who can put failure aside and bounce back with robust confidence.
