Burners and David swap cricket injury stories and we want to hear yours too. So drop us a line with your most gruesome injuries, just please don’t show us your scars – that’s gross.

The show also features part 3 of the spin bowling tips interview with South African coach Menno Gazendam.

Plus we answer your questions on cricket careers and how to be loose like Joel Garner recommends.

Dave, I think the intro song to the podcast has run its course. I reckon we need a new intro song.

I agree ;-D

I'll change the music if you put your injury stories in. Give and take fellas....

I don't remember ever being injured playing cricket funnily enough, other than the obligatory painful but non-serious lower abdomen contusion whilst batting.

I've seen two fully grown men run into sightscreens. Awesome.

In my first game for a new team, the vice-captain (a big bloke) called for catch that clearly wasn't his, and our most athletic fielder was safely underneath it, only to be met with a huge shoulder about a tenth before he was about to catch it. The ball bounced off the top off his head, rendering him unconscious, and the shoulder charge send him flying to the floor where the ball landed on him again. Unfortunately he didn't catch it!!!

My own worst injury was keeping wicket indoors. I stretched down leg to stop a wayward delivery from a medium pacer, and the hard plastic ball hit me on the full on my left instep. I probably broke something because it was still painful 8 months later even though I didn't get hit on it again.

My first post here but been reading alot on here, and finding it great!

This year was to be my second season and after some coaching and practice last winter was feeling great and was threatening the best batsmen in the club(I was very excited for the start of the season).

Upon the first game of the season playing my first match for the league team, I was called upon for some seam up aggresion with added bounce(i'm 6'4") I excitedly paced out my well practiced run up for the first ball of my season. I powered into the crease and put in the smoothest delivery stride I felt I ever had. As I landed my back foot there was a loud crunch and I wondered what had made me hit the stumps and fall. While lying on the floor I looked behind to see the stumps still standing, now slightly confused as to what the noise could have been and why the non strike batsman was screaming. It was right then all became clear as I saw my leg bent to a right angle half way down my shin. Thankfully a fireman on the team knew exactly what to do and kept me going through the 40min wait for the ambulance alongside some very good friends!

It turns out I had suffered a compound tibial fracture and double fracture of the fibula.

Cause; Doing for too much sport and physical work, while not eating enough calories. Had sustained a series of hairline fracture down the inside of each shin. It was just waiting to go.

Now fixed with a tibial nailing and making a steady recovery! I have managed to bowl my first ball of the season but not with the pace I hoped.

good god Rich! That is the most horrific thing Ive every heard (cricket wise!)

(and welcome to PV!)

Reminds me of the TwelthMan episode where Bruce Reid snaps in half... you know it?

Ye-ouch

No I haven't heard of the Bruce Reid thing? I shall do some investigating. Got some great x ray pics of it!

Ooh! Rich! You know how to press a girl's buttons... would have loved to have seen them. Laughing out loud

Don't worry about pace; you'll be strong and killing them in no time... well, by next season at least. Eye-wink

Good luck!

Hope this doesn't make anyone to squeemish and is allowed!

I think its pretty cool!

give this man a prize!. Next time you see a soccer player rolling around on the ground after a tiny tap on the leg: show them this!

Cricket = a proper mans sport! (apologies Liz and all women cricketers)

Damnnn that is nasty X ray Rich. Hope you are all good now mate.

That's a lovely collection of breaks Rich. The tibia and distal fibula fractures should repair quite nicely and the other does not matter too much as it is not weight bearing.

I assume you have physio to work the muscles, esp. the peroneals. Keep up the exercises and the bones will take no time to be stronger than they were. Eye-wink

I also assume you have been given a list of good foods with the right balance of nutrients and minerals... very important!

I feel I took it like a cricketer too, after about 2mins the jokes were rolling, as I was laid on good length, I said they could caarry on playing so long as they pitched it short etc etc... footballers = Wimps

Liz, The bones are all healed fantastic now, I broke it on 17th April and was signed off as fixed after 9 weeks, I've got a Tibial ?intermulery? nailing, was weight bearing from the op(4.5 hours)

The physios have been quite good and I felt like they just wanted me to be able to walk again, not too much of a challenge for me. They have not mentioned peroneals, what are these are? The exercises are fairly crap too, stretch this little band here and there, and I never really see any improvement.

I read the powerlifting posts and saw you were talking about exercises for power etc I was hoping to message you and pick your brains for exercises and nutrition(I have received no advice and my physios aren't what I would say is fit) I'm a game keeper so am active all day as well.

Is there a training program I can follow to improve my bowling? I need to improve leg strength, core and upper body strength. I've found what exercises to do but how many of what and how often etc lots of reps or heavy weights, how many sets, what to include in interval training? Sorry for the lots of questions but its a nightmare to find this info.

Sounds really good Rich; your age is on your side with this one. However, not sure how you could possibly be a gamekeeper and not eat enough calories... don't tell me you're a vegetarian! :0

David, Brian and I can certainly help you but I am not sure this is the place. Have you read Brian's blog: http://www.pitchvision.com/node/6056 ?

Start one for yourself and if possible include a link to a video... we will do what we can.

Lol Definately not a veggie!

Read Brians Blog there is no way I could stomach what Brian puts away....I eat as much as I can and tend to eat 5 times a day.

I've started having protein shakes(half portions here and there as a top up) on the days when I do alot of training/and or work......I think I started a blog in the forum section???

Also found brians training guide and started on that! Plus swimming now as well.
