Question - Why are indian players so fat and unfit?

they are not fat those all are muscles.if you think they are fat then in india there is no more importance is given to fitness and energy everybody concentrate on the sport.if they are unfit then they can atleast hit boundries or take wickets and also they are good players.

I wouldn't say they are fat and unfit but there is no denying that they are less fit than some other international teams. I can't tell you why, perhaps it's a cultural thing - fitness is not seen as quite as important as it is in England, Australia or South Africa. That's just a guess though.

^ I would concur with David H on this one ^

Having spent six months with the Bangladesh national team I can confirm they don't enjoy the fitness training and gym work. let to their own devices, very few if any, would actually go to the gym or do any training. The opposite is true for England, SA, NZ and Australia.

this gets discussed nicely in the next podcast... classic question: Why are all indian cricketers fat and lazy! you guys handle it nicely.

its a culture thing most of the Indian are veg/
only proteins build muscles and Indian diet never focuses on protein.

the culture gives more importance to skill. skill can be of any form like chess, cricket, carom , education etc
even most of the scholars are Indians teaching on foreign universities.

in India if u r fat then u come from good wealthy family, if u slim then u r not given enough oily butter food by your mother, mother pours the oil and butter as way to show affection to their child.

the importance is given to academics not sports.

if u make a survey on 1000 child max 2 child will say i want to be a sportsperson.

the best example is Indian hockey team which won many medals in Olympics , but as soon as the rules changed to playing on artificial surface the game dropped as it require more strength than skill

REGARDING FITNESS

Fitness is a subjective word, what is fit for you may not be fit for others

a player seems to be super fit and has developed his fitness in the cold climate of English or Australian weather develops strength muscle and speed
he spends all his fitness drills over his own surrounding but when he puts across to diffrent climates why does he fail

example: dean jones was the fittest and quickest runner in his playing days, but he was put in drip while playing in chennai heat........... u call that as super fit.

Michael Kasprowicz and bret lee lost lot of weight while playing a indian test series u call that as fit.

for some fitness is size of the waist
some it amount of weight u can lift
for some amount of running u can do
for some fitness is sachin tendulkar playing cricket non stop for 20yrs
for me fitness is ANIL KUMBLE playing with broken jaw against westindies

ANDREW FLINTOFF at the time of his debut was the heaviest international cricket player , when he retired he was the slimmest and with full of well toned body more like model, but why did he retire so early in his carrier because of knee trouble was that mean he was not fit despite having a athletic body

shane warne was he more fitter when he was bowling 30 overs a day or now after he has lost some much weight

was steve waugh more physically fit or mentally

is marcus trescothick a fit player

why fitness is always physical
why not mental strength

ALL THIS TALK of indian player fitness has started because recent injuries for many players in one go. most of the injuries are for the player who have been playing international cricket for more than 10 yrs now, not like other teams where players come and go every second season

INDIANS TEAM has just won the world cup, indians by nature are highly emotional guys they get carried away that too when such large fan following it becomes difficult to maintain focus after winning the cup .

in the end just wait for the ENGLISH TOUR OF INDIA.

Well said Ram Smiling
